Dr. Hutchins studied at the University of East Anglia. He has a 1st class honours degree and was awarded a PhD in surface physics technology in 1985. Steve started his career as an engineering consultant in Cambridge working on a wide variety of technology projects. He then joined Lotus Cars Ltd as an engineer before being promoted eventually to Head of Sales and Project Management of the Engineering Division working with many of the world’s leading carmakers. He joined Keronite in December 2002 to reinforce the commercial effort, particularly in the automotive industry, before being appointed Chief Technical Officer and later Chief Operating Officer.
Professor Shrestha received an MSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering (St. Petersburg) and a PhD in Materials Engineering (Glasgow) and spent 5 years at TWI Ltd (Cambridge) working on various surface technologies helping major aerospace and oil & gas industries. In 2005, Suman joined Keronite to help further advance PEO surface technology and now holds the position of Vice President – Applications Engineering.
He is a Visiting Professor and sits on the Industrial Advisory Committee for the University of Leeds. He also sits on the Technology Advisory Board for Keronite and on the Editorial Board, Journal of Surface Engineering. He is a Chartered Engineer; Chartered Scientist; Fellow IoM3 and Fellow IMechE.
After completing his first degree and PhD in Cambridge (Materials Science), Professor Clyne held University posts in Brazil, Switzerland and Surrey, before returning to Cambridge and subsequently being appointed to a Chair in Mechanics of Materials. He has authored ~400 papers and 2 textbooks, and been sole supervisor for over 70 PhD students in Cambridge. Research interests include the thermo-mechanics of coatings and composite materials (www.ccg.msm.cam.ac.uk). He is the Director of the Gordon Laboratory, which is supported by about a dozen industrial partners. He was elected to a Helmholtz International Fellowship in 2015.
After receiving a BSc in Mechanical Engineering an MSc in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (Dokuz Eylul University) and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Heriot-Watt, Edinburgh), Ugur spent 2 years in University of Leeds (Leeds) working on various surface technologies. In 2007, Ugur joined Dokuz Eylul University Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department and published several technical papers on PEO surface technology, tribology and corrosion. Ugur is an Associate Professor and is currently supervising several research students on the PEO surface technology.
Prior to joining Leeds University as a lecturer in 1985, Professor Barton had five years’ experience as a structural analyst in the nuclear power industry mainly concerned with high temperature and aseismic assessment of reactor structures. His research interests at Leeds have centred around the experimental derivation and numerical implementation of complex models of material and structural behaviour particularly in relation to high strain rate deformation (including crashworthiness of vehicles), tribological interfaces in automotive engineering (brakes, gearbox synchronisers) and biomedical applications (total artificial joints, impact biomechanics). He is currently Professor of Solid Mechanics and Head of the School of Mechanical Engineering at Leeds University.
Dr. Robin Francis is Chief Technical Officer and is responsible for leading Keronite’s technology development programs. Robin is a chemist and materials scientist by training and holds a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Oxford. Prior to joining Keronite Robin held a number of senior roles in technology companies including as the CTO of a fuel cell developer and the interim CEO of carbon capture start-up. Robin has also held senior roles in strategy consulting at Arthur D. Little and Sagentia where he focused on innovation and growth strategies.
