Keronite set to open brand new surface technology centre near Cambridge

Cambridge, UK––11th July 2018––Keronite today formally announces its plans to open a revolutionary advanced surface technology centre near Cambridge, UK.

The new technology centre, due to open its doors soon, will be the world’s first dedicated R&D centre for plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO), the ground-breaking surface coating technique for light alloys pioneered by Keronite. The company currently conducts much of it’s experimentation at the company’s headquarters in Haverhill, nearby the new technology centre.

Keronite will equip the new centre with complete surface testing and PEO development facilities, enabling their scientists to continue developing life-lengthening and weight-reducing coatings for a whole manner of industries. Facilities will also be used to aid customers with their pre-compliance testing. Also occupying the facility:

• 3 dedicated PEO deployment systems

• Wet laboratory facilities for electrolyte composition testing, enabling Keronite’s scientists to refine the PEO process for each and every customer need

• Metrology laboratory facilities for putting Keronite’s thinnest coatings (starting at just 1 micron) through their paces

• Comprehensive pre- and post-coating analysis equipment

• Salt spray booths for corrosion-resistance testing Keronite’s advanced duplex coatings

“In essence, the new facility drastically improves Keronite’s capacity for new product introductions. With our existing facilities becoming increasingly occupied by volume production lines for long-term customers, we’re renewing our innovative focus and facilities to ensure we’re in a strong position to continue growth” comments Matt Hamblin, Keronite’s CEO.

“Our volume manufacturing business is growing every year. It’s one of the major factors instigating the 25% growth we experienced last year. The strength of our development pipeline highlights a growing need for PEO developments, coupled with ongoing customer demand for long-term production facilities”, he continued.

Keronite expects to occupy the new purpose-built facility in the coming months and already has agreements in place with customers to occupy much of the new development space upon opening.

When the facility is opened in the coming months, Keronite will have three purpose-built facilities for plasma electrolytic oxidation: two facilities near Cambridge and a US manufacturing base in Indiana – further strengthening Keronite’s manufacturing footprint and the company’s position as the world’s leading advanced coatings company.
